Urban Mill muuttaa Design Factoryyn 1.10.2021 – Urban Mill moves to Design Factory on October 1, 2021

We would like to thank all our members, partners, and customers for the wonderful years 2013 – 2021, which we have been able to share with you at the Urban Mill co-working and co-creation platform at Betonimiehenkuja 3. Thousands of stories could be written about these years. And we promise to collect these stories later! Although the roughest innovation space & “living room” in Otaniemi, co-created by all of us together, is now going down in history, our innovative community and its spirit will not go away. They will continue to strive from Otaniemi Innovation Alley to the future, supported and driven by our new multi-location and hybrid service model. At the end of the year, we will celebrate both the past and the future by organizing a Get together event for all current and former millers at Otaniemi Innovation Alley, so stay tuned!

Terveisin / with Best Regards

Kari, Lars, Marjukka, Tomi ja muu Myllyn väki!

TIEDOTE YHTEISTYÖKUMPPANEILLEMME, JÄSENILLEMME JA ASIAKKAILLEMME – ANNOUNCEMENT TO OUR PARTNERS, MEMBERS AND CUSTOMERS 1.10.2021

Palvelumallimme muuttuessa siirrämme kotipesämme pihan yli naapurimme ja pitkäaikaisen yhteistyökumppanimme Aalto Design Factoryn tiloihin. Uusi osoitteemme on 1.10.2021 lähtien:

Urban Mill Innovation Platform
Betonimiehenkuja 5 C
02150 Espoo

HUOM! Muutoksen myötä olemme luopuneet omien tapahtumatilojen operoinnista ja ylläpidosta Betonimiehenkuja 3 E -kiinteistössä. Try Mindfulness meditation in Urban Mill at PDP Gala 4.9.2020

Announcement for PDP Gala 2020 visitors from Urban Mill ecosystem actor network: Experience how mindfulness practices make difference in the state of your mind and learn how mindfulness can support your team.

MINDFULNESS SUPPORTING YOUR TEAM | FRIDAY 4.9.2020 at 11:00-13:00
4 different practices á 30 min: 11:00, 11:30, 12.00, 12:30

Urban Mill, Betonimiehenkuja 3E, Otaniemi, Espoo, Finland

An innovative mind and good communication work best when there is just a moderate amount of stress, when one feels him/herself safe. This is something that you can improve with mindfulness-meditations. You may practice these meditations privately or as a team.

Well experienced, professional mindfulness teacher Erja Lahdenperä, Helsinki Mindfulness will guide these meditations.

Fri 4.9.2020 – 4 different exercises

At 11.00 Body and breathing.
Calming down the nerve system, helping brains to become more open and observative. You might notice that you are finding solutions more easily.

At 11.30 Meditation of the sounds.
Opens the mind to observe the ”bigger picture”, perhaps also a different point of view.

At 12.00 Body and breathing with the difficult sensations in our body
One learns how to be with the problematic moments. Staying there calmly gives you an opportunity to notice the way out instead of pretending that the difficulty doesn’t exist.

At 12.30 Body scanning
Helps to calm down and to become close to yourself. Helps to improve emotional intelligence and gives a way to recognize the hints of intuition.

Be at the place in time because we will close the door when we start.

You may come only for one meditation or you may like to try them all.

Give yourself, your body, brains and heart this experience. You will notice the difference.

See you at PDP Gala!

Erja

Saturday 13, a Teekkari Graduation Party in Mexican Way

It is a strange feeling to know that finally the effort of years is paying-off and your studies are officially over; to me, this means no more exams, studying, or homework… ever. As good as feeling as this is, the feeling of melancholy is inevitable. I studied the larger part of my degree at Design Factory and Startup Sauna, therefore celebrating my graduation at the neighbor’s was suitable; While I never spent nearly as much time at Urban Mill as I did the others, they are all somehow an alternative family within Otaniemi.

The party started a few days earlier when we started planning the event; we were expecting close to 70 people, 30 of which would join a family/adult dinner of which around 15 would join 40 friends at a later dance party. In the end, this was quite accurate, and we peaked at around an estimated 65 guests. The dinner party included Mexican food mixed with side-dishes, salads, appetizers, and some bubbly-wine which was prepared beforehand and served to the guests after a small toast from a few brave ones. The dance party focused more on music, lights, and a good atmosphere.

Among the guests were close family members, distant relatives, Mexican relatives, friends from my degree, from other degrees, from other schools, and from random origins. This mixture worked amazingly as we saw people from different origins mingling with each other. The food was widely appreciated and the dancefloor had people dancing Latin music, oldies, and house. It is necessary to mention that this party would not have been as big a success as it was without the help of Aalto Takeout who gladly lent us a set of party lights and a massive set of stereo speakers and subwoofer which gave us that punch we needed.

We had the possibility to reorganize the space as we wanted but we chose to keep most things as they were. The way the Urban Mill is distributed allows us to have many different little spaces for people to sit at which somehow give the feeling of a lounge bar with a somewhat industrial touch to it. The dance floor was set on the stage, lights shining from the floors above, and a large cloakroom set at the entrance, perfectly replicating a dance club.

Text by Rodrigo Prieto Padilla, who was celebrating his graduation. Photos by Reino Laukkanen.

The use of the facilities at student-friendly price was offered by Urban Mill and TEK’s Uusimaa Regional Office, which jointly develop and pilot new types of community space services in the Otaniemi area.
