Aalto University and its partners arrange several hundreds of events annually, also open to alumni and corporate representatives. We cannot invite guests to the campus until 31 May. However there are many events online.

During these challenging times of uncertainty, we want to reach out and let you know that we are committed to our mission, to you – our learners, and the incredible community that has supported us, more than ever before. We are facing extraordinary times, but we are optimistic that together we will overcome the challenges and come out stronger.

Since 2015, Funzi has delivered the calming message of information and learning to millions of mobile users in many types of crises in collaboration with governments, the UN system, and third sector organizations. Our capability to deliver effective and motivating learning to all connected devices is unique. And hence, it is our responsibility to contribute to the fight against #covid19. Our intent is to do this on a systems-level globally while being locally relevant everywhere.

We have today launched the Funzi Future Pack. You can find it at funzi.mobi/go/futurepack It consists of four high-quality free mobile courses that equip the users with the skills needed during the crisis and for building a better future thereafter.

Get that future (created in collaboration with UNESCO): creating an understanding of the importance of our active role in building our futures.

Sustainable world (created in collaboration with UNDP & UNA Finland): increasing awareness of the challenges we are facing and how to make more sustainable choices after the crisis that will have a lasting impact.

European Design Upgrade: Transnational Capacity Building

European Design Upgrade: Transnational Capacity Building (EDU) – is an interdisciplinary program for improve the professional level of young designers and the development of creative teams, developed jointly with leading expert teachers from three countries: Belgium, Ukraine and Finland.

The program aims to bring together designers, artists, architects, scientists, IT professionals and entrepreneurs to address the urgent challenges of urban ecosystems, find developments and solutions that can be implemented locally or across Europe.

The EDU course consists of theoretical and practical lessons and team assignments that will be implemented simultaneously in innovation hubs in Ukraine (UNIT.City), Belgium (Brussels Creative) and Finland (Urban Mill).

The project is funded by the European Commission, the Agency for Education and Culture and implemented by the fund K.Fund. It aims to develop creative industries and support talented designers, artists and technologists. The purpose of the program is to find innovative urban solutions for creating a modern and harmonious socio-cultural environment in Ukraine.

35 participants will be selected for the free interdisciplinary program in Ukraine, after preliminary questioning and interviewing. In Ukraine, a course of lectures from international teachers will be held in May 2020 in Kyiv, based on the UNIT.City Innovation Park.

The top-10 participants will become leaders of multidisciplinary teams and will have the opportunity to take part in practical training at one of the largest FabLab Fabricator rapid prototyping laboratories in Ukraine, which will last from June until August 2020.

Upon completion of the workshop, the most sophisticated and interesting concepts from each of the countries represented will receive funding for the preparation of their prototype and a trip to the international exhibition Dutch Design Week, which will take place from 17 to 25 October 2020, which will increase the potential of young artists to implement their ideas in Europe.

The implementation of this pilot project uses an innovative approach combining interdisciplinary knowledge and skills to meet the challenges of today’s society.

Urban Mill on yksi keskeisistä yhdessätekemisen paikoista Otaniemen kampusalueella. Koronaviruksen leviämisen johdosta joudumme valitettavasti rajoittamaan tilojemme käyttöä. Haluamme noudattaa vastuullista toimintatapaa ja asettaa ihmisten terveyden ja hyvinvoinnin etusijalle.

Sovellamme Aalto-yliopiston antamia linjauksia koronavirukseen liittyen ja siirrymme 16.3.2020 itsepalvelumoodiin. Tämä tarkoittaa sitä, että tila on toistaiseksi auki vain avaimen haltijoiden organisaatioille ja heidän vierailleen ja että heidän tulee noudattaa tilassa soveltuvin osin yliopiston linjauksia: www.aalto.fi/fi/aalto-yliopisto/tietoa-koronaviruksesta .

Yhteenveto tällä hetkellä voimassa olevista Aalto-yliopiston ohjeista, joita kaikkien aalto-yhteisön jäsenten kehotetaan noudattavan (päivitetty 16.3.2020):

  • Pidä riittävä henkilökohtainen etäisyys opetuksessa, opiskelussa ja työskentelyssä.
  • Jos sinulla on flunssan, influenssan tai muun tarttuvan taudin oireita, pysy kotona.
  • Jos sinulla on vakavia oireita, ole puhelimitse yhteydessä työterveyshuoltoon, opiskelijaterveydenhuoltoon, terveyskeskukseen, terveydenhuollon päivystykseen tai matkavakuutuksen tiedoissa mainittuun infonumeroon.
  • Järjestä yli 30 henkilön tilaisuudet etäyhteyksillä, siirrä tai peruuta ne.
  • Hyödynnä online-työkaluja (esim. Teams) mahdollisuuksien mukaan.
  • Älä ota vastaan yliopiston ulkopuolisia henkilöitä tai järjestä tapahtumia ennen 31.5.2020. Yliopiston toimintojen jatkuvuuden kannalta tärkeissä tapauksissa ole yhteydessä corona.information@aalto.fi riskiarvion tekemiseksi.
  • IT-tuessa ja -järjestelmissä voi olla ruuhkaa lähipäivinä. Tuki pyrkii turvaamaan ensisijaisesti opetuksen ja kriittisen toiminnan. Ole kärsivällinen ja etsi tietoa ja tukea ensisijaisesti verkon kautta. https://www.aalto.fi/en/it-help (jos linkki ei aukea, kopioi osoite selaimeen).
  • Jos palaat työ-, opinto- tai lomamatkalta ulkomailta, työskentele ja opiskele etänä 14 vuorokauden ajan. Ole näissä tapauksissa yhteydessä esimieheesi, kurssin vastuuopettajaan tai korkeakoulusi opintopalveluun sopiaksesi tämän ajan erityisjärjestelyistä.
  • Ulkomaille ei toistaiseksi matkusteta työ- tai opiskeluasioissa. Vältä kaikkea matkustamista myös kotimaassa. Siirrä matkoihin liittyvät tapaamiset tuonnemmaksi tai järjestä ne etäyhteyksillä.
  • Pese kädet usein ja kunnolla. Älä kättele. Hyvä käsihygienia on parhaita keinoja estää viruksen tarttuminen ja leviäminen.

We must re-think our food production, if we want to live off our land in the future. This is what we do at Vaasan and at Lantmännen, a Swedish agricultural cooperative that owns Vaasan. But we need more people who think differently in order to produce tasty and healthy food for our future generations.

Do you have an idea about the future of bread? Do you have fresh insight on oat to complement our expertise? Maybe a way to reduce climate impacts in the bread chain?

Apply now to Greenhouse – together we’ll create the bread innovations of tomorrow!

The Greenhouse consist of six workshops arranged during the spring of 2020, and will culminate in a dragons’ den event in May. The aim is to sharpen raw ideas into complete business cases. Participation in the program is free of charge, you will only need to take care of your travel fees to the workshops arranged in Espoo.
