Kick scooter sharing pilot concludes on a high note in Otaniemi by Samocat Sharing

Samocat Sharing Oy, with the introduction of Kick-scooter sharing system, the ”most compact public transport” want to add another option for users in their transportation choices by solving the last mile problem. The research focused on understanding stakeholders’ collaboration, required business model and user behavior & experience over a three-month pilot in Otaniemi, Espoo Innovation Garden in Finland.

The Pilot kicked off in the beginning of September 2017 and ended in November 2017. The results of the pilot are now published in a report found here: http://www.samocat.net/fi_report2017

Samocat sharing Oy, an international start-up with Russian roots are developing the kick-scooter sharing system as an ideal last mile public transport for urban areas. Samocat sharing consists of a dynamic team of individuals experts in varied fields operating from Moscow, Russia and Espoo, Finland.

City of Espoo, ACRE (Aalto University Campus and Real Estate, TEKES (Tekes, 2017) and Aalto University student union (AYY) are partners with Samocat. Urban mill is the workspace provider with logistics and networking support. Helsinki business hub (HBH) is the consultants who worked from the beginning throughout the pilot.

Focus group for the pilot have been Aalto University students, staff and Corporate employees around Otaniemi area. Six locations around Aalto University campus was set up for the pilot.

Invitation to BA Service Design Project Course Final presentation on 6th of April

You are kindly invited to the Final presentation of this year BA Service Design Project Course which will be on

6th of April at 9:00 in the Arabia Campus, at Hämeentie 135 C Helsinki, 8th floor, room 857  

This year the theme was Mobility as a Service where students were working on four different projects related to mobility for lead users, young families in suburban areas and students studying in Otaniemi.

The event will have the following timetable:

  • 9:00 Welcome and course introduction
  • 9:05 Group 1: Car sharing services for lead users (Tumps)
  • 9:35 Group 2: Mobility services for young families in Espoo (Easy Everything)
  • 10:05 Group 3: Mobility application for Otaniemi Campus students (OtaReach)
  • 10:35 Group 4: Future mobility services for lead users (Fumo) in SINCO Lab (8th Floor)
  • 11:05 Discussion
  • 11:15 Finnish

Each group will have 20 minutes for presentation and there will be 10 minutes for feedback.

Finland to host the first Mobility as a Service ecosystem in the World – Digitalisaatiolla lisää valinnanvapautta liikenteeseen

TIEDOTE 4.2.2015 ITS Finland Oy

Kaksikymmentäkolme (23) keskeistä Suomessa toimivaa organisaatiota on käynnistänyt yhteistyön tavoitteena luoda Suomeen ensimmäinen liikenteen palveluoperaattori. Uuden toimijan tavoitteena on useita liikennevälineitä yhdistelevien henkilökohtaisesti räätälöityjen liikennepalveluiden tarjoaminen kuluttajille. Uusi toimija tulee olemaan ensimmäinen kaikki liikennemuodot yhdistävä ns. Mobility as a Service –palveluntarjoaja maailmassa ja sille nähdään merkittävää vientipotentiaalia.

Tarkoituksena on saattaa markkinoille palvelu, jonka kautta voitaisiin yhdistää eri palveluntarjoajien matkapalveluita siten, että ihmisten matkaketjut olisivat entistä yhtenäisempiä ja palveluita saisi nykyistä helpommin. Tavoitteena on helpottaa ihmisten liikkumista parantamalla palvelun tarjonnan ja kysynnän vastaavuutta.

Liikenne palveluna -termillä tarkoitetaan liikkumispalveluiden ostamista käyttäjien tarpeeseen välineen ostamisen sijaan. Nykymallissa käyttäjä voi ostaa joko liikennevälineitä (auto, polkupyörä jne.) tai liikennevälineissä käytettäviä lippuja (bussilippu, junalippu jne.).

Hankkeen puheenjohtaja, ITS Finland ry:n toimitusjohtaja Sampo Hietanen pitää uutta toimintamallia mullistavana:
– Liikenne palveluna -ajattelussa käyttäjälle mahdollistuu matkan ostaminen lähtöpaikasta määränpäähän. Olennaisena osana ajatteluun kuuluu palvelutasoajattelu. Matkan hinta voi vaihdella esim. sen mukaan, kuinka nopeasti matka taittuu tai sen mukaan, kuinka mukavasti matkustaa. Palveluilla halutaan tarjota lisää valinnanvapautta liikenteen käyttäjille.

– Liikenne palveluna -ajattelussa käyttäjälle mahdollistuu matkan ostaminen lähtöpaikasta määränpäähän. Olennaisena osana ajatteluun kuuluu palvelutasoajattelu. Matkan hinta voi vaihdella esim. sen mukaan, kuinka nopeasti matka taittuu tai sen mukaan, kuinka mukavasti matkustaa. Palveluilla halutaan tarjota lisää valinnanvapautta liikenteen käyttäjille.

– Lähtökohtana ajattelulle on, että matkoja voi tulevaisuudessa yhdistellä eri välineiden kesken. Yksityisautoilun, linjaliikenteen ja tilausliikenteen parhaita ominaisuuksia yhdistelevät palvelut parantavat myös haja-asutusalueiden palvelutasoa.
Jotta kaikki toimijat eivät joutuisi itse rakentamaan omia yhdistelyratkaisujaan, on perusteltua synnyttää yksi tai useampia liikenteen operaattoreita, jotka vastaisivat ekosysteemin rakenteesta.

Palvelua lähdetään rakentamaan laajaan yhteistyöhön perustuvalla markkinamallilla. Selkeiden standardien ja pelisääntöjen luominen on edellytyksenä sille, että monenlaiset toimijat pystyvät liittymään mukaan palveluverkostoon, mikä on nähty edellytykseksi kansainväliselle laajenemiselle.

Yhteistyöhön on sitoutunut 23 organisaatiota: Delta, Elisa Oyj, Ericsson, Goodsign, GoSwift, Helsingin seudun liikenne, IQ Payments, Maanmittauslaitoksen Paikkatietokeskus, Neocard, OP Ryhmä, Ramboll, Secto, Semel, Siemens, Sito, Skedgo, Stratax, Suomen kasvukäytävä -verkosto, Taksiliiton Yrityspalvelu, Tampereen kaupunki, Sonera, ja Uber. The Helsinki Model aspires to upgrade the service level of transportation by harnessing the passion and capacities of public and private entities. Collaboration and integration of services aims to create a seamless, demand-based and compelling travel experience for the public.

Digitalisation to enable more freedom of choice in traffic

Twenty-three key organisations in Finland have partnered to cooperate in the establishment of the first Mobility-as-a-Service operator in traffic. The goal of the new entity is to offer tailor-made traffic services to consumers based on their individual needs. The operator will be the first full ecosystem service provider in the world in the field of Mobility-as-a-Service. The operator has substantial export potential.

The term Mobility as a Service (MaaS) stands for buying mobility services based on consumer needs instead of buying the means of mobility. In the present model the user may either buy means (a car or a bike) or tickets for transport (bus ticket, train ticket etc.)

The chairman of the project and CEO of ITS Finland, Sampo Hietanen describes the concept as revolutionary:

– With the MaaS concept, the user may buy transport from the place of departure to the destination. An essential part of the concept is thinking in terms of service level. The price of transport may vary for instance based on time or comfort level. The new service offers freedom of choice for traffic users, combining mass transport, demand-based traffic and private vehicles.

– The basis for this new thinking is that different forms of transport may in the future be combined. In order for all users to not have to create their own combination solution, it makes sense to create one or more traffic operators, who take the responsibility for the ecosystem structure.

The service will be developed based on an open market model with broad co-operation. Creating unambiguous rules and standards is the prerequisite for numerous actors to be able to join the service network. This in turn is the prerequisite for international expansion.

The following organisations have partnered to cooperate in establishing the operator company: Delta, Elisa Corporation, Ericsson, Goodsign, GoSwift, Helsinki region transport HSL, IQ Payments, Finnish Geospatial Research Institute FGI – National Land Survey, Neocard, OP Financial Group, Ramboll, Secto, Semel, Siemens, Sito, Skedgo, Stratax, Finnish Growth Corridor Network,  Corporate Services of the Finnish Taxi Federation (Taksiliiton yrityspalvelu), City of Tampere, Sonera, Uber. Business consultancy Eera is in charge of the business planning process.
