European Design Upgrade: Transnational Capacity Building

European Design Upgrade: Transnational Capacity Building (EDU) – is an interdisciplinary program for improve the professional level of young designers and the development of creative teams, developed jointly with leading expert teachers from three countries: Belgium, Ukraine and Finland.

The program aims to bring together designers, artists, architects, scientists, IT professionals and entrepreneurs to address the urgent challenges of urban ecosystems, find developments and solutions that can be implemented locally or across Europe.

The EDU course consists of theoretical and practical lessons and team assignments that will be implemented simultaneously in innovation hubs in Ukraine (UNIT.City), Belgium (Brussels Creative) and Finland (Urban Mill).

The project is funded by the European Commission, the Agency for Education and Culture and implemented by the fund K.Fund. It aims to develop creative industries and support talented designers, artists and technologists. The purpose of the program is to find innovative urban solutions for creating a modern and harmonious socio-cultural environment in Ukraine.

35 participants will be selected for the free interdisciplinary program in Ukraine, after preliminary questioning and interviewing. In Ukraine, a course of lectures from international teachers will be held in May 2020 in Kyiv, based on the UNIT.City Innovation Park.

The top-10 participants will become leaders of multidisciplinary teams and will have the opportunity to take part in practical training at one of the largest FabLab Fabricator rapid prototyping laboratories in Ukraine, which will last from June until August 2020.

Upon completion of the workshop, the most sophisticated and interesting concepts from each of the countries represented will receive funding for the preparation of their prototype and a trip to the international exhibition Dutch Design Week, which will take place from 17 to 25 October 2020, which will increase the potential of young artists to implement their ideas in Europe.

The implementation of this pilot project uses an innovative approach combining interdisciplinary knowledge and skills to meet the challenges of today’s society.

”Julkaisu antaa suosituksia tulevien vuosikymmenten kaupungistumisen tasapainoiseen hallintaan pienten ja suurten kaupunkien sekä koko yhteiskunnan näkökulmasta.


Policy paper 6.2.2020: Miksi Suomen kaupungistuminen jatkuu?

Kaupungistuminen ja erityisesti suurimpien kaupunkiseutujen kasvu jatkuu Suomessa edelleen.

2000-luvun alkuvuosikymmeninä yritystoiminta, työpaikat, maahanmuutto ja kiinteistöbisnes keskittyivät kouralliseen suurimpia kaupunkeja. Samalla taantuvien alueiden kiinteistöomaisuus menetti nopeasti arvoaan. Nämä muutosilmiöt jatkavat luultavasti samaa kehitystä.

Mitkä ovat kaupungistumisen ajurit 2020- ja 2030-luvuilla?

Suomi pyrkii hiilineutraaliksi yhteiskunnaksi vuoteen 2035 mennessä. Tavoitteeseen liittyvät politiikkatoimet nostavat elinkustannuksia epätasaisesti eri puolilla Suomea. Digitaalisen talouden murros tulee taas vaikuttamaan työpaikkoihin. Näyttää siltä, että tämäkin kehitys vetää työntekijöitä kaupunkeihin, joissa työpaikkoja on paljon ja monipuolisesti.

Annamme suosituksia tulevien vuosikymmenten kaupungistumisen tasapainoiseen hallintaan pienten ja suurten kaupunkien sekä koko yhteiskunnan näkökulmasta. Suosituksissa ehdotamme mm.:

– työhön ja opiskeluun perustuvan maahanmuuton voimakasta lisäämistä
– hiilineutraaliin rakentamiseen siirtymistä
– asuntopolitiikan roolin vahvistamista

Uskomme myös, että perinteisten alue- ja elinkeinopolitiikan välineiden menettäessä tehoaan, kaupungistumiseen tulee vaikuttaa talous- ja yhteiskuntapolitiikan suurten linjausten kautta.

Hanke tutki kaupungistumisen nykytilaa ja tulevaisuutta Suomessa. Tämä julkaisu on syntynyt hankkeessa mukana olleiden ajatushautomo Demos Helsingin ja Tampereen yliopiston tutkimusryhmien toimesta. Osiota johti professori Panu Lehtovuori Tampereen yliopistosta.”

Tässä ajankohtaista tietoa Urban Millin kesän aukioloajoista sekä tulevista tapahtumista.

KESÄN 2019 AUKIOLOAJAT

Urban Mill siirtyi kesämoodiin ma 17.6. Avaimen haltijoille tila on auki 24/7, muille vain tapahtumissa sekä yritysjäsentemme ja kumppaniemme vieraina. Olemme avoinna normaalisti taas ma 12.8. lähtien.

ESPOO-PÄIVÄN TAPAHTUMAT 30. -31.8.2019 URBAN MILLISSÄ

Espoon kaupungin nimikkopäivää vietetään jälleen kaksipäiväisenä kaupunkijuhlana elokuun viimeisenä viikonloppuna pe-la 30.–31.8.2019.

Espoo-päivä on Espoon suurin vuosittainen kaupunkitapahtuma, joka kerää noin 70 000 kävijää eri puolille kaupunkia. Kaikki Espoo-päivän tapahtumat ovat maksuttomia. Kaupunkilaiset voivat joko olla itse tekemässä tapahtumia tai olla kävijänä kokemassa uusia elämyksiä.

ESPOO-PÄIVÄT URBAN MILLISSÄ

Järjestämme kumppaneidemme kanssa tällä kertaa kaksi Espoo-päivän tapahtumaa Urban Millissä, ohjelmat tarkentuvat elokuussa:

  • Pe 30.8.2019 klo 12.30-15: Otaniemi tutuksi – Otaniemi tänään ja huomenna. Tule ottamaan selvää mitä Otaniemessä jo tapahtuu. Kurkista kampuskokeiluihin ja tulevaisuuden Otaniemeen. Ammenna tietoa alueen kehittäjiltä ja kerro minkälaisen Otaniemen sinä tekisit. Aalto-yhteisön, Espoon kaupungin, TEKin, yritysten sekä asukasyhdistysten esityksiä ja keskustelupisteitä.
  • La 31.8.2019 klo 10-14: Otaniemen Innovaatiokujalla kokeillaan. Tule tekemään itse! Kokeile uutta! Tapaa suunnittelijoita, yrittäjiä ja taiteilijoita. Onnistu yhdessä. Vie tuotokset kotiin. Työpajoja, kilpailuja ja tekemistä lapsille, nuorille ja perheille. Tutustu Innovaatiokujan tiimien protoihin, demoihin ja näyttelyihin. Experimenting at Innovation Alley!

Iloisia kierrätys- ja lajittelu-uutisia!

Kiinteistömme on valittu pilottikohteeksi  Aalto CRE:n järjestämään muovipakkausten erilliskeräykseen. Tavoitteena on parantaa kierrätysastetta ja näin pienentää jätehuollon hiilijalanjälkeä sekä jätehuoltokustannuksia. Samalla myös lajittelu yksinkertaistuu.

Huomioithan, että muovipakkausten erilliskeräys muuttaa lajittelua:

Kiinteistön energiajäteastia säilytetään yritysmuoveja sekä puujätettä varten. Uudet jätejakeet, kuluttajamuovipakkaukset ja kartonki, lajitellaan jatkossa omiin astioihinsa.

Näiden keräyspisteet löytyvät talon sisältä taukotilojen yhteydestä. Kierrätettäviä muovipakkauksia ovat lähes kaikki muovin kuluttajapakkaukset, kuten eväsrasiat, kertakäyttöruokailuvälineet ja muovipussit. Paperisia etikettejä esimerkiksi jugurttipurkkien ympäriltä ei tarvitse poistaa, mutta huuhtelethan epäpuhtaudet muovipurkeista pienellä määrällä kylmää vettä.

Kartonkiin kuuluvat esimerkiksi kertakäyttökahvikupit ja kauppojen salaattibaarien kartonkiastiat.

Keräyksen yhteistyökumppanina ovat L&T ja Fortumin muovinkeräyslaitos. Kierrätetystä muovista valmistetaan muun muassa kastelukannuja, kukkalaatikoita, ämpäreitä ja saaveja.

Pilotti kestää vuoden 2019 loppuun asti. Tarkoituksena on myöhemmin laajentaa kokeilu pysyväksi ratkaisuksi koko kampukselle.

Positive recycling news!

Our building has been selected to take part in a pilot for recycling plastic packaging material organised by Aalto CRE. The aim is to encourage recycling, reduce our carbon footprint and minimise management costs. Sorting waste will be made easier as well.

Please note that the collection of plastic packaging waste will change how waste should be sorted:

The energy waste bin will remain for plastic waste from businesses and waste wood.  Two new waste bins will take the energy waste bin’s place: one for plastic packaging and one for recycling cardboard.

The bins are located inside the building near the break room. Most consumer packaging, such as lunch containers, disposable utensils and plastic bags, can be recycled. There is no need to remove, for example, the paper labels around yoghurt cups. However, please do rinse the packaging with a small amount of cold water, if there is any food residue etc. in them.

The cardboard recycling bin is intended for things like cardboard coffee cups or cardboard food containers from salad bars.

More detailed sorting instructions can be found near the waste bins.

The collection is organised in cooperation with L&T and Fortum’s Plastic Refinery. Recycled plastic is used to make watering cans and other plastic garden products, for example.

The pilot will be ongoing until the end of 2019. Later on, the aim is to extend the pilot to be a permanent part of waste management throughout the campus area.
