Arkkitehtuurin laitoksella, Miestentie 3, järjestetään 6.6. kiinnostava vierailuluento otsikolla ”The Planning Game” salissa 103 klo 17:00-18:30. Luennon pitää yhdysvaltalainen kaupunkisuunnittelija Alexander Garvin joka luennoi proaktiivisesta kaupunkisuunnittelusta.

Garvin on merkittävä yhdysvaltalainen kaupunkisuunnittelija, kirjailija ja dosentti Yale School of Architecturessa. Hänen merkittävimpiin töihinsä kuuluvat Atlantan vihervyöhykesuunnitelman (Atlanta BeltLine) rationalisointi, Manhattanin alueen kehittäminen erityisesti WTC:n ympäristöstä sekä New Yorkin olympiaehdokkuuden ajaminen 2012. Garvin on toiminut myös johtajana New Yorkin kaupunkisuunnitteluvirastossa sekä palvellut New Yorkin asuntotuotannon ja yhdyskuntasuunnittelun yksiköiden johtajana. Hänen julkaistuihin teoksiinsa kuuluvat mm. ”The American City: What Works, What Doesn’t” (McGraw-Hill Professional 2002), ”Public Parks: The Key to Livable Communities” (W.W. Norton 2010) sekä ”The Planning Game: Lessons from Great Cities” (W.W. Norton 2013).

The Department of Architecture organizes a public lecture under the title ”The Planning Game” on June 6th between 5-6:30 PM in lecture hall 103 (Ground Floor).
The lecture, which deals with proactive urban planning, will be held by American urban planner Alexander Garvin.

Mr. Garvin is a notable American urban planner, writer and adjunct professor in the Yale School of Architecture. His most prominent works include rationalizing Atlanta’s proposed greenbelt park system, the Atlanta BeltLine. Additionally, he was behind New York City’s 2012 Olympic Games bid, as well as overseeing efforts to redevelop lower Manhattan, especially around the World Trade Center site. Mr. Garvin has served as the commissioner on the New York City Planning Commission, as well as the New York City’s Deputy Commissioner of Housing and Director of Comprehensive Planning. He has published numerous books on urban planning, including ”The American City: What Works, What Doesn’t” (McGraw-Hill Professional 2002), ”Public Parks: The Key to Livable Communities” (W.W. Norton 2010), and ”The Planning Game: Lessons from Great Cities” (W.W. Norton 2013).
